My Husband’s Secret Competition Against an ETF (He’s Winning)

You know that old myth about couples who start looking more and more alike after decades together?
They say you grow into each other – same habits, same expressions, same slightly grumpy face in the morning.

My husband and I hit 32 years in just over a month. We most definitely do not look alike but some traits have definitely rubbed off.

We were both born with a competitive streak. Mine is still significantly stronger. That said, he has found a competition I completely missed.

We invest in individual stocks, even though our ETF holdings are basically just another kind of fund.

A couple of months ago he also opened a capital insurance account at Montrose. What I didn’t know is that from the very first purchase in that account, every time he buys something he also picks up two units of the Montrose Global Monthly Dividend MSCI World UCITS ETF (the one everyone just calls Montrose Global Monthly Dividend).

He does this so he can compete against Montrose. His stock picks have to outperform the fund – otherwise he loses.

Do I even need to say that so far, his holdings have beaten the Montrose fund?

What’s your secret competition at home? The one nobody else knows about? Drop it in the comments – I’m collecting material for the next 32 years.
