We’ve had the same insurance company for over ten years.
Home insurance, car insurance, accident insurance – everything just rolled on year after year without us lifting a finger.
The only policy with a different company is our son’s child insurance. We took that one out while I was pregnant. It has no exclusions. Every other company would have given us exclusions because he’s been on medication for iron deficiency since he was seven.
Today I got the message: our car insurance was about to triple. The car is three years old, so vehicle damage coverage was being added whether we wanted it or not.
I called the company that already has our son’s insurance. They immediately offered a better price and stronger protection across the board.
Then I called our old company to cancel everything effective September 1st. Suddenly they wanted to negotiate. The same prices that thirty minutes earlier had been written in stone were now “up for discussion.”
They probably would have matched the competitor’s offer.
But sometimes it’s satisfying to burn the bridges.
My husband, who usually tries to put out my fires, didn’t stand a chance this time.
Have you stayed loyal to an insurance company for years only to get rewarded with a massive price hike?
Tell me in the comments – did you switch, or did you let them talk you into staying?
