One thing that puzzles me is how some public sector job ads specifically require experience from the public sector

It’s almost as if private sector experience is considered second-class — even when the roles are very similar.

I know several dedicated people working in the public sector. Yet I’ve also seen that those coming from the private sector often bring a noticeably higher level of drive, efficiency, and practical problem-solving.

A fitting analogy is the current resistance against self-driving technology. Studies from NHTSA and others show that autonomous vehicles already have 2–5 times fewer accidents than human-driven cars in most scenarios. Still, the Swedish Transport Agency is fighting hard to restrict or ban Tesla FSD in Europe.

Why does the public sector so often seem to prefer the familiar option — even when data suggests a better alternative exists?
