No coding background. No real understanding of data bridges, redirects, or how WordPress actually works under the hood. Just a Gen X guy who got tired of Blogger’s slow decline and decided the archive needed a proper home.

Six-plus hours later, every single post was on WordPress, sorted into its own category. I also built a redirect bridge so anyone hitting the old Blogger links lands on the new site without noticing. Seamless. Invisible. Exactly how it should be.

It wasn’t free. WordPress dropped proper support for the old Blogger import format after Google changed how they export the data. I had to buy an add-on to get the job done. Money well spent if it means the old posts actually survive.

Gemini also forced me to confront something I’d ignored for years: meta descriptions. I’d never written them properly before. Now I do. Small thing, big difference.

Six months ago I treated AI like a slightly smarter search engine. Today I use it to write HTML, build Google Sheets automations, draft letters, and apparently migrate entire blogs. The jump is real.

I see the upside clearly. I also see the downside. One of the bigger ones is that I’m afraid people will get dumber. The less we use our own brains, the stupider we become. Sometimes when I picture the future I just see the movie Wall-E — a lot of soft, helpless people who can no longer walk or think for themselves.

Whether future generations will laugh at our current anxiety the same way my parents laughed at their parents’ fear of rock music… remains to be seen.
