The rise of AI and advanced robotics will likely change the global playing field once again.
Previously, entire factories were moved to low-wage countries, causing job losses in the West.
This time, it may be the low-wage countries that see the biggest impact.
When robots can perform work at a fraction of the cost, the competitive advantage of cheap labor will diminish. Many factories could instead move to countries with favorable tax policies, strong infrastructure, or better logistical locations for distribution. Some production may even return “home” to shorten travel routes for factory visits and inspections — or simply for goodwill and national pride.
